Heart of Darkness

I made several
big wooden maps for a 2006 show with Rich Jacobs and Jordin Isip called “Good Grief” at the Aftermodern gallery in San Francisco. They have a bunch of my work for sale and they are very nice people so feel free to contact them if your interested in any work.www.aftermodern.com Aftermodern445 Bryant StreetSan Francisco, CA 94107T: 415.512.7678F: 415.512.7602 The show got a pretty good review:San Francisco Chronicle February 26, 2006Review by Kenneth BakerHere’s to … William Buzzell, who … nearly walks away with “Good Grief,” the show of work by three East Coast artists at Aftermodern, one of the newer galleries in town. One need not know what Jasper Johns did with the map of the United States — though it helps — to appreciate [his] handling of the world’s most famous geographic silhouette. A street-oriented artist – [he] has cobbled together numerous map profiles of the United States from bits of wood and other found materials and subjected them to comic, sometimes critical disfigurement.”Heart of Darkness” (2006), which can stand for the lot, divides the country into jagged shapes, a few suggestive of corresponding states. Brickwork patterns cover its red, khaki and blue components, the whole thing turned to a cartoon face by a peace symbol mouth, a missile of a nose and coffinlike eyes.Miming folk art sounds easy but it takes a special touch, which [he] has, for the effort not to feel forced [William Buzzell] puts most of the good into “Good Grief.”

COPSHOT

Heres my tribute to the New York City’s Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association. A Swedish guy bought it when I was out at Loyal gallery in Stockholm.

Jingoism at its best

That bottom piece is called “Home Base” You can’t really see it in the photo but it says “I’m afraid of Americans” and below that it says “Don’t be such a pussy”. An Irish guy bought this piece.

A Piece Apart

Jordin Isip currated a show called “A Piece Apart” at a great NYC gallery called Aiden Savoy. He asked me and my brother, Joe, to install a window display and heres what we did for it. The show was a benefit for rural people in the Phillipines who cant afford eye care. Thats why the World is wearing sunglasses.

Sneaker Pimp

For a show called “Sneaker Pimps: The Worlds Largest Touring Sneaker Exhibition” I was given a pair of sneakers to customize. This is what I came up with.
