THE HARDEST WORK I HAVE EVER DONE.

Yo you still have a couple days to catch Muralmorphosis, a “continuously evolving, temporary mural and animated film project” being painted and shot at 2nd and Race streets every day this week from 10am to dusk. I will be on the site tomorrow creating frames of animation on a house-sized wall. I think it’s my last day. I hope so, because I am sunburnt, bug-bitten and exhausted from this.
THEN YOU ARE INVITED to the CLOSING RECEPTION this Saturday night (the 19th) at 9pm- same location. Musical performances by Charles Cohen (Color is Luxury), Yanni Papadopoulous, Chalk, Beige Americans and Planet Y. I assume they will be screening the animation; I assume there will be booze as well. Please God let there be booze.
Anyway, it’s part of the Philly Live Arts/Fringe Festival and curated by the Mural Arts Program.

Creature Feature

I have some drawings hanging in the Rocket Cat Cafe of Fishtown (Frankford and Norris), as do Michael Gerkovich and a smattering of other swell individuals, in an all beast-themed show curated by Greg Labold. Check it if you find yourself north of Girard ave because god knows it’s the only place to get coffee up there.

A counterpoint of the divergent tendencies that make contemporary art simultaneously brilliant and brutal, Seriously Stupid brings together a broad range of visual provocateurs from the multivarious fields of comics, conceptualism, painting, sculpture and skate culture. By contrasting and collapsing the problematic boundaries by which we separate the intellectual and intentionally moronic tendencies inherent in picture-making today, we understand that both are legitimate responses to the complexities of our modern world, and each offers some quotient of sympathy and understanding for the dysfunction of our collapsing empire. For the super-smart and inebriate alike, this is art to get in a brawl over for no other reason than the make-up sex after will be the best you ever had.

UN NATURE.

Little Berlin Gallery presents Un Nature, the artwork of

Katie Elia
Bonnie Brenda Scott
Adam Bush
and Nate Butler

Opening Saturday April 4th
6 – 11PM
With musical guests Bandname and DJ Mr. 10 Fingers.
1801 N. Howard st. Philadelphia 19122

“Un-Nature is a contemporary examination of the synthesis of man, nature, and science through visual creation. The language these artists create is one of a grotesque Romanticism. At its core, Romanticism is a reaction to the scientific rationalization of nature, stemming from the 18th century. The work in this exhibition is a reaction to the hyper rationalization we face in the 21st century. The artists create an innate emotional image in response to a culture that is very aware of science and its role in nature. Unlike 18th century Romantic thought, the anthropomorphic relationship of the artist’s chosen image steers away from the beauty of nature. Instead, the artists look at the ugly underside of nature and its interconnectedness with human beings.”
