Cat Foot

Cat Foot

I made a cat box out of scrap cardboard and threw a towel in it so my cat can lay down in it.

I keep the box close to my table so that way, when I'm reading, or drawing, or eating food, I can stick my foot in the box and stroke my cat's belly with my toes. She loves it and it helps her sleep, otherwise she would meow a lot.

It feels all warm and fuzzy, kind of like dipping my toes into a warm bathtub, except it's just one foot and the water is made of fur.

WILLIAM BUZZELL

WILLIAM BUZZELL

IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE IN LONDON (Ontario) THIS FRIDAY:
Community Outreach is pleased to present for its October Exhibition new works by Philadelphia based artist William Buzzell. This exhibit will feature new work by the artist and will be his first solo exhibition in Canada.
The work of William Buzzell is very diverse in subject matter. Topics such as donating blood, dog racing and syndicated television shows are treated with a playful curiosity but also a more serious underlying tone which harkens on the darker issues involved in each subject. Working almost entirely with found materials, Buzzell’s works often contain three dimensional elements that protrude from the intricately marked surfaces of the work. His brushwork is exceptionally fine as maps, logos, charts, text and popular cartoon characters are rendered in great detail.
Says Buzzell: “Growing up in Providence, Rhode Island, I was constantly participating in poster contests sponsored by various community groups, the Jewish Community Center, the Boy scouts, the Providence Journal, the YMCA, or the Providence Public Schools to name a few. These contests would usually be based around a theme like “Volunteering. The Rent We Pay For A Spot on Earth” or “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.” The work would be displayed on easels in the foyer of City Hall or laminated and hung on the walls of the school cafetorium or in the community center lobby along side methadone clinic posters, equal employment notices and announcements about applying for food stamps in Spanish. In Save the Rec Centre, I was really interested in creating an environment that was evocative of this community sensibility that places emphasis on the practical over the aesthetic.”

Friends Don't Let Friends Print Alone

Friends Don't Let Friends Print Alone

Next week the collaborative print show, Pumping Killmud Down the Drill Pipe will open in the galleries, featuring several different makes and models of print collaboration with projects by local and national artists.
Cannonball Press and Howling Print Studios are brewing up a highly caffeinated, giant relief print mash up, served strong and black, of course.

And in the opposite corner, facing off against the stark black world of Cannonball and Howling Print will be a dynamic collaborative print. Lucky gallery visitors will be treated to impromptu ink slinging sessions in October by Hasiuk using screenprint printing and his forearms of steel.

Next, a Broadside Battle will be raging on the big wall in the gallery!

And, Drive By Press will be cranking out the prints, in the gutter outside Space 1026 on Friday night, and Saturday, too. Drive By Press is a traveling print shop housed in the back of a pickup truck based in Wisconsin.

Don't miss the action!

STREET WORLD

STREET WORLD

1026 gets some love in the new book STREET WORLD (Abrams, 2007) that Tony put together with Roger Gastman and Caleb Neelon. I'm sure there will be more on this later. The book comes out soon. I guess you can pre-order on Amazon or hold out and buy it from your local small indy book store (hold out for option #2)
