Ryan Parker : Finder
Ryan Parker: Finder
August 3- August 25, 2012
Opening Reception: Friday, August 3rd 6:00 – 10:00 p.m.
Finder is an exhibition of new work by Philadelphia printmaker and textile designer, Ryan Parker. Parker uses traditional printmaking techniques to realize conceptual worlds that are built within a virtual 3D modeling program.
The prints for this exhibition utilize collaged compositions taken from screenshots of open windows on a computer screen. The images in the windows are fragments of a virtual space Parker has been exploring. His prints borrow their format from first-person videogame worlds such as Doom and Maze War, one of the first first-person shooter games. At the core of his exhibition at Space 1026 is a suite of recent copperplate etchings and large-scale drawings which are meant to immerse the viewer within the depicted space.
Parker was born in Arizona, and raised in Florida. He received his MFA in printmaking from Tyler School of Art in Rome, Italy and Philadelphia. He is a recipient of the Frans Masereel Centrum Residency in Belgium and Cork
