"Etincelles," opens this FRIDAY at 1026!!!

Space 1026 is proud to announce the opening of “Etincelles,” featuring the artwork of Emi Honda, Leyla Majeri and Nadia Moss. This dynamic artistic trio currently resides in Montreal, QC, and will be showing a diverse range of work including printmaking, painting and video at Space1026 during the month of May. We are also excited to be premiering artist Emi Honda’s newest video/music endeavor under the performance alias Elfin Saddle , premiering concurrently at the
MUSEE D ART CONTEMPORAIN DE MONTREAL.
Show opening is May 7th , 7pm – 10pm
May 7th – May 29th

Emi Honda is a Japanese-born artist who has lived in Canada for over a decade. Her delicate and intricate work utilizes materials scavenged from the excesses of daily life. Dusty fake flowers, broken toys, pieces of luxurious fur coats and electrical parts from old VCRs… These once beloved possessions end up in her collection through friend’s hands, thrift shops, or found in the streets and back alleys of Montreal. Carefully chosen materials and calculated compositions bring a gentle order to her work, yet an underlying darkness trickles through even her most whimsical works; a fungus that eats away at its edges.
Honda is a member of Montreal-based band Elfin Saddle currently on Constellation Records (they will be touring the northeastern United States this May). Emi has recently expanded her practice to include video/film creation with a new film WURLD, a collaboration with bandmate Jordan McKenzie. For more information, visit .

Leyla Majeri is a musician and visual artist, living in Montreal. Under the pseudonym Alphonse Raymond, she has done several small books, zines and newspapers. With silkscreening as her prefered technique, her work explores different methods in order to manipulate colours and geometry inside a world where which games and amusement are used to make imagination triumph. Her drawings, sculptures and performances have been noticed by the experimental art and music scene. Her work has been shown by the galleries Little Cakes and Hanna, as well as by the publishing houses Buenaventura Press and Le Dernier Cri (France). She is currently watching the last episodes of Inuyasha.

Nadia Moss was born in Ontario Canada. She currently lives and works in Montreal.
She has released two artist books with the independent publishing house L’Oie de Cravan (Mr. Non Pigeon 2005, B

2012 : Apocalyptic Signs that Plastic Little Killed Hip Hop : 2012

Its official. Plastic Little scored a half page photo in the Sunday edition of NyTimes Arts Leisure section with awesome quotes from Plastic Little such as “In a sense, these meta-rappers have become keepers of the flame for the genres old guard neo-traditionalists in eccentrics clothing. Theres always nostalgia its a byproduct of capitalism” said Jayson Musson, 30, the frontman for the Philadelphia rap satirists Plastic Little. “Especially for the kids who werent really there, that era becomes hypercool, like the 50s and the Beats.”

The photo was taken from the video “Dopeness” directed by space member Ted Passon. Big thanks to everyone who helped, Carrie from Fabric Horse for making the outfits and the giant vagina, Kelly Turso for taking such a lovely photo, Devynn Emory for the excellent choreography, and super special thanks to the dancers: RoAnne, Meg, Daniele, Hedy, and Dave, and the abandoned hospital people, and

1901 : The Very First Zine Ever!!!

Adam Wallacavage was kind enough to show me a little something special he found in the third floor ceiling from many years back. As it turns out, AJW did not invent and publish the first zine in America circa 1958. Adam brought proof that actually the Christians invented and published the first zine circa 1901 at our one and only 1026 Arch street address. Sorry AJW , Adam de – throned your previous title and now “Christianity In Ernest” has replaced “Labs With Abs” as the space’s first zine. thanks adam

Goodbye Christopher

On Friday July 25th, we lost artist, musician and friend Christopher Tucker to a tragic accident. Julian and I had the pleasure of working with Christopher at Space1026 during the summer of 2001 recording his band “The Situation” first EP. Christopher was an gifted musician and an incredible song writer, with a fierce intellect that always seemed to get him in trouble. We will miss you very much. Hopefully someday we will see each other again…

For more information concerning Christopher Tucker’s life please read Philly Girl About Town’s posting here
